Tipperary Races today announced the entries for the highly anticipated Super Sunday meeting scheduled to take place this Sunday October 7th. The possible clash between Thousand Stars and Rebel Fitz in the Grade 2 Friends Of Tipperary Hurdle is undoubtedly the highlight on a quality eight race programme. Super Sunday Image

Winner of the Kevin McManus Bookmaker Grimes Hurdle over this course and distance in July before recording a memorable success in the Guinness Galway Hurdle, Rebel Fitz subsequently won again at Cork and is clearly in tremendous heart at present. However, Thousand Stars is a very classy performer and this triple Grade One winner and dual winner of the French Champion Hurdle is sure to provide a stiff test to Michael Winters’ rising star in a race which has attracted 11 entries. Former Cheltenham Festival winner Captain Cee Bee, beaten twice by Rebel Fitz in recent months, and recent Lartigue Hurdle winner at Listowel, Burrenbridge Lodge, are other notable entries in what promises to be a fascinating affair.

On a card which features four Graded races, the Coolmore Stud Home Of Champions Concorde Stakes over an extended seven furlongs has ten horses remaining after today’s final forfeit stage. Aidan O’Brien has left in the classy Starspangledbanner who showed something like his old form when runner up at the Curragh recently while the much improved Gordon Lord Byron, second in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock in early September, plus old rivals Lady Wingshot and Yellow Rosebud, first and second respectively in the Fairy Bridge Stakes over this course and distance in August, also feature among the remaining entries.

The Dolores Purcell Memorial Novice Hurdle over two miles has attracted the Oliver McKiernan trained Whatever Jacksays, successful in four of his last five hurdles races and an impressive winner at the recent Listowel Festival. He faces a couple of promising rivals on Sunday with the likes of Too Scoops, Landenstown Lady and Passage Vendome in opposition while the Like-A-Butterfly Novice Chase is another quality race with the experienced Whodoyouthink the highest rated entry among a field of 12. Pride Of The Arctic has won his last 3 chases and is obviously in great heart at present while Ballyadam Brook, He’s Our Man, Sweet My Lord and easy Killarney winner, Jacksonslady, are other notable contestants.

Super Sunday is the first of Tipperary’s three day Festival featuring the new replacement fixture on Monday 8th October and the National Hunt Season Finale on Tuesday 9th October.

Jane Davis Manager at Tipperary Races said: - “The entries for Super Sunday are fantastic; with four Graded races and plenty of entertainment planned the day is shaping up really well. It would be wonderful to see Rebel Fitz at Tipperary again, the reaction he got from the crowd when he won here in July was electric and I can only image the celebrations if he goes on to win again on Sunday. It is Family Day too with free admission for all U 18’s and free Family Fun entertainment throughout the day. Our parade ring MC’s David Byrnes and Kevin O’Ryan will be bringing all the action from Paris to our racegoers with live coverage on the big screen. It will be a great few days for the track, having the new fixture as part of our Super Sunday and Season Finale line-up makes it very exciting for our team. We look forward to staging three great days of racing.”
