Strong Entry for Tipperary Feature Races on Saturday

Monday, 1 January 1

A total of 16 horses, including two from the David Pipe stable, have been entered for the €62,500 Grade 3 Kevin McManus Bookmaker Grimes Hurdle at Tipperary on Saturday, July 11th. Dell’ Arca, who finished third to Faugheen in the Grade 1 Queally Group Punchestown Champion Hurdle and went on to win over fences at Uttoxeter, and the nine-time winner Street Entertainer could represent Pipe in the race that has also attracted entries from a number of leading Irish yards. Champion trainer Willie Mullins has put four in the two mile event, headed by the Vincent O’Brien County Hurdle winner and recent Royal Ascot fourth Wicklow Brave. Mullins, who won last year’s race with Simenon, has also entered Thousand Stars, Blood Cotil and Diakali. Nobody has their horses in better form than Gordon Elliott and he has entered two of his leading lights, Bayan and the Aintree winner Taglietelle. Henry de Bromhead could be represented by Darwins Fox who chased home Simenon in the race 12 months ago while another notable entry is Rawnaq from the Matthew Smith yard. The €47,500 Listed Excelebration Tipperary Stakes has attracted 10 entries, headed by the Willie McCreery-trained Shrill who impressed on her debut at Cork three weeks ago. Independence Day was a very good winner on his second start for David Wachman at Down Royal while the Joe Murphy-trained Fit For Function scored at Fairyhouse just last Sunday. Eddie Lynam is set to drop Promised Money back in trip after she ran third to the Richard Hannon-trained Great Page in a similar race at Naas early last month. Andrew Hogan, Manager of Tipperary Racecourse, said, “This is one of our biggest days of the year and it is a mixed card with something for everyone. We are delighted with the quality of the entries in our two feature races, the Grade 3 Kevin McManus Bookmaker Grimes Hurdle and the Listed Excelebration Tipperary Stakes. It’s really shaping up to be a great day.”
