Fantastic Frankel lights up Royal Ascot

HE CAME, he saw, he conquered. Again. Frankel was at his irrepressible best as Sir Henry Cecil's superstar made a mockery of another Group 1 field to extend his unbeaten sequence to 11.

Tom Queally never had a moment's concern on the four-year-old, who delivered a performance befitting his odds of 1-10, crushing his rivals by 11 lengths and barely breaking a sweat.

Given a lead into the race by stablemate Bullet Train, Queally took up the running with three furlongs left, and within a few strides the contest was over as Frankel tore up the straight with the rest of the field giving the impression the grass was made of treacle.

Second went to Excelebration at 5-1, just holding off 33-1 chance Side Glance.

In the wake of the race, both Cecil and Queally felt that this was the best performance of his career, which already go down in the Pantheon of greats, as he was winning his seventh Group 1.

Cecil said: "I'm not surprised but relieved, no horse is a certainty. He's a great horse, he did exactly what I thought he would but he's still improving.

"It looks like he'll stay a mile and a quarter, he's in the Eclipse, Sussex Stakes and Juddmonte, we'll feel our way and he'll tell me what to do."

Queally was equally impressed as he added: "He settled and travelled, he's amazing. That was his best performance, he ticked all the boxes and I couldn't have asked for anything more."
