Unaccompanied ruled out of mares' hurdle

UNACCOMPANIED, general 6-1 second favourite behind Quevega for the OLBG David Nicholson Mares' Hurdle at Cheltenham, will miss the festival.

The versatile six-year-old was regarded as possibly the main threat to Quevega's bid for a fifth consecutive win in the race, with only her and Une Artiste at single-figure prices with Betfred behind the perennial winner.

Unaccompanied's trainer Dermot Weld told the Racing Post on Tuesday: "Unaccompanied is on the easy list after pulling a muscle. It's only a slight problem and she should be back in light work next week but, unfortunately, she won't be going to Cheltenham."

Moyglare Stud's mare is a dual Grade 1 winner over hurdles. She finished runner-up to Zarkandar in the JCB Triumph Hurdle in 2011 and, on her most recent start, filled the same position on her last run in the Istabraq Festvial Hurdle, in which she was beaten seven lengths by Hurricane Fly.

Entries for Cheltenham's mares' hurdle are revealed on Wednesday.
