A group of almost thirty traveled by bus to Leopardstown for Day 1 of the inaugural Dublin Racing Festival. Bus collected Members in Pallasgreen, Oola, Monard, Tipperary, Golden, Cashel, and Horse & Jockey on route to south Dublin track.
All enjoyed wonderful racing with three Grade 1 races on offer, including one of the highlights of the N.H. calendar, the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle.
While Faugheen was the star attraction for many of our group to land this feature race, there was great excitement when we saw Supasundae taking the honours at 8/1 for the Jessica Harrington yard.
In addition to top class racing on the track, we were treated to live music, comedy performances, cookery demonstrations & DJ sets throughout the day in the enclosure.
Departed Leopardstown 17.30 following an exhilarating days racing. Called at Horse & Jockey Hotel for refreshments where discussion on days winners continued during our sixty minute stop,
Our first social outing of the year concluded in Pallasgreen at 21.15. A great day was had by all.
Almost twenty of our Members attended Cork Racecourse Mallow for P2P raceday with an all N.H.card and Family day entertainment. Members joined bus in Pallasgreen, Limerick Junction, Tipperary, Emly and Kilmallock arriving in Mallow at 13.00.
The Mallow Maiden Hurdle over three miles got the action under way at 13.45 with Stoneford from the Noel Meade stable taking victory at 13/8 under Keith Donoghue. This was a popular success getting many of our group off to a winning start.
The Point-to-Point flat races produced winners in Judkin at 12/1 and fav Portnablagh for Cork & Meath handlers Jimmy Mangan and Gordon Elliott respectively. Portnablagh stayed on well to lead close home to give Gordon Elliott his 200th winner of the season.
In both races we saw National Hunt stars of the future taking victory on this final day of Cork Easter Festival.
Many of our Members visited the extensive children's entertainment provided on site including playground, bouncy castles, rodeo bull, pet farm. This ensured a complete fun day out for all the family.
We eagerly await our Point-to-Point meeting in Tipperary. If Tipp provides the same thrilling action and entertainment - we are on a winner on May 10th.
All thoroughly enjoyed Easter visit to Cork Racecourse and look forward to further great days out over the summer months. Returned to Pallasgreen for 20.30.
Tipperary Racecourse / Supporters Club and the Tipperary Lions Club jointly ran a Cheltenham Preview Night in the Ballykisteen Hotel, Limerick Junction.
