The Return Of The Flat - Thursday 20th April
Join us to kick off the flat season for 2023 at Tipperary Racecourse. With just under 4 weeks of flat racing complete this meeting can be quite an informative meeting for the season ahead.
This card last year produced quite a few future winners throughout the rest of the season and also a couple of horses who went on to feature at pattern level. The opening race, the 5 Furlong Irish Stallion Farms EBF 2 Year Old Race was won by the Aidan O’Brien trained The Antarctic who went on to win his second start at Naas before finishing 2nd in the Group 1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes in Newmarket in September.
Other future winners of note who ran on this card last year included the 2nd and 3rd placed horses in the aforementioned 5 Furlong Irish Stallion Farms EBF 2 Year Old Race. Wodao trained by Donnacha O’Brien who finished 2nd in this race went on to win the Listed Coolmore Ten Sovereigns Stakes back here in Tipperary on the 29th of June and Treasure Trove, trained by Paddy Twomey who finished 3rd in this race went on to win at Listed level in York before then going on to win the Group 3 Heider Family Stables Round Tower Stakes at The Curragh In August.
The final race on the card, the Racing Again At Tipp on May 5th Race featured Lust, trained by Ger Lyons who finished 2nd before going on to win the Listed Owenstown Stakes at Naas. Emphatic Answer finished 5th in this race and went on to be narrowly denied by the high class Pearls Galore in the Lanwades Stud Stakes at The Curragh for trainer Joseph O’Brien. This card also features two maidens that produced future winners last year including Sundial for Aidan O’Brien and Hotter Than Hades for trainer Jack Davison.
